Answer

The aim of the Practice Improvement and Crisis Response Team is to support GP Practices at risk, to develop and implement an effective Practice Recovery Plan to ensure delivery of GMS services for their registered patients. This will include advice on management issues and GP clinical cover.

The service is provided through GP Federations and was established to support GP Practices at risk and to develop and implement an effective Practice Recovery Plan. The Federation-led General Practice Improvement and Crisis Response Team incorporates expert General Practice managerial support at short notice for practices at high risk or in a crisis and improved access to clinical GP cover at short notice for practices at high risk or in a crisis.

As at 18 December 2025, 29 GP Practices are recorded as currently receiving support from the Practice Improvement and Crisis Response Team across Northern Ireland.

Of these 24 practices are receiving GP clinical support, 3 are receiving managerial support and 2 practice improvement support.

Previous figures show that in February 2024 a total of 40 practices were supported, with the numbers rising to 43 in June 2024.

December 2024 saw 29 practices receive support, with 30 in February and June 2025.
