Answer

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence TA943 Hybrid closed loop systems for managing blood glucose levels in type 1 diabetes has been endorsed as applicable to Northern Ireland.

Funding has been secured to support the implementation of a 5-year implementation plan through a service development of the Regional Insulin Pump service. This will support equitable, sustainable and affordable access to this technology, which is targeted to optimise outcomes for those groups most likely to benefit.

Once the commissioning process has been completed, further information, including a breakdown of the funding, will be available. However, the most appropriate system for each individual is the responsibility of the local Trust and their clinicians to determine in consultation with the patient and/or the patient’s carer.
